AIPAD 2011 Photography: Things I Like

Upon first entering, Yossi Milo’s booth stood out, and seemed to be one of the best showing at the fair. Two striking Pieter Hugo photographs greeted you, from the series, “The Hyena and Other Men.”

Next, around the corner, at Bonni Benrubi, were a few interesting black and white photographs by Paola Pellegrin (above; forgive the poor photograph).

Michael Shapiro Photographs had a few of my favorite classic photographs, including a vintage Robert Frank, as well as a series of Manuel Alvarez Bravo still photographs for the film The Pearl by John Steinbeck, from 1945 (imagine Bravo on a movie set!).

There also was an interesting series by Lewis Baltz that I’ve not seen before, “The Protoype Works.”

Eric Franck Fine Art, London, had an interesting series by under known Graham Smith, whose gritty, real black and white images of real life I found intriguing and worth looking at.

Rick Wester Fine Art had another fine vintage Robert Frank, while across the aisle, Amador Gallery had some Arnold Odermatt, the “discovered” Swiss police photographer.

Stephen Daiter Gallery had some John Gossage prints, a under discovered artist in my opinion.
