Fine Art Photography: Exhibition in Atlanta: Atlanta Celebrates Photography, Mary Stanley Studio Project

I’ve never been to these month-long photo festivals that take over a city (they have them in Montreal, Washington, Toronto, and other places), but have always been curious about how they integrate photography into the storefronts and other less-likely gallery spaces.

Atlanta has one: Atlanta Celebrates Photography, and I’ll be a part of Mary Stanley Studio Project, “Ones to Watch” with:

Holly Andres – Portland, OR presented Courtesy of Jackson Fine Art
Kendrick Brinson – Atlanta, GA
Eric De Fino – Los Angeles, CA
Sion Fullana – Brooklyn, NY
Steve Giovinco – New York, NY
Brendan Kingsley – Savannah, GA
Thomas Petillo – Nashville, TN
Christopher Rauschenberg – Portland, OR
Hrvoje Slovenc – Brooklyn, NY
Sarah Small – Brooklyn, NY

If you are in Atlanta, please stop by!

Below is additional information.

Please join us for the Opening Celebration for the new exhibition
More from the 2011 Ones To Watch presented in conjunction with the 13th annual Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival on Thursday October 6th from 6:00 – 9:00pm at Mary Stanley Studio Project Space at Gallery 2 in downtown Atlanta. The gallery is located on the ground floor of the Marquis Two Tower adjacent to the Marriott Marquis Hotel. The exhibition will continue through October 29th.

A few weeks ago, some of you attended the christening of my new space and saw a sneak preview of the photography of these ten talented artists. This exhibition features a larger selection of their work ranging from large format color photographs to subtle black and white nudes.

Featured artists:

This is the first time many of these fresh new talents have exhibited their work in Atlanta. Sarah Small, born in Washington, DC, began her photography career at age 13. She is a graduate of RISD, currently lives in Brooklyn, NY and teaches photography at Parsons. Her work explores the unlikely interactions born when dissociated characters are brought together into the same space. She has received much acclaim for her ongoing body of work Tableau Vivant of the Delirium Constructions. Her description of this project is intriguing “Part homage to the history of art, part joyous celebration, part party, part radical experiment…revealing the evolutionary process of creating art and community…” Small’s work has appeared in publications including Vogue, Life, and The New York Times. Her images have been exhibited in the U.S. and internationally, in such venues as Caprice Horn Gallery, The Corcoran Gallery, and The Australian Center for Photography. She has been the recipient of numerous awards, and was recently named by American Photo as one of the “Top 13 Emerging Photographers” working today.

Sion Fullana is a professional photographer, journalist and filmmaker living in New York City. He was born in Majorca Spain and lived in Barcelona and San Antonio de los Banos Cuba where he graduated in film directing from the prestigious EICTV (International Film and TV School). Since moving to Manhattan in 2006, he has focused his career on street photography and has emerged as one of the masters of the mobile photography movement. Sion combines his journalistic and cinematic background with his talented manipulation of smartphone technology to create iconic images and tell engaging stories. His work is featured regularly in Time Out NewYork, and in numerous publications including Wink-Magazine, Gup Magazine, El Pais, El Mundo, Phaidon.com, Mashable, American Photo Magazine and many others. He teaches mobile photography for Apple, and is one of the founders of MPG, an artist cooperative seeking to push mobile photography into the mainstream of photojournalism.
